A good lesson to learn!

Beautifully done! In ASL and in few minutes, you've debunked the complexity of status quo!

Great job!

Hey Jay! I couldn't help but laugh so hard about your monkey story..I guess it is the way you explain it in ASL..it is so hilarious to me but seriously it is a really interesting theory based on the experiment.

You raised a valid point which is not to swallow on what is there but to question it.

Hi there, I wasn't really sure about the monkey story, the scientists probably knew that hosing the monkeys would have made them mad, just like people, so it sounds like a flawed experiment with a bad outcome resulting the monkeys getting aggressive with one another and having only one banana dangling from the cage, this is the worst possible experiment anyone could have done. Even if they did this to humans, it would be cruel. I understand what you mean about status quo and that people need to stop and think before they follow others or not. I believe education is the way to go and it helps people develop critical thinking skills if they could receive that in schools and they can think for themselves and try to make the world a better place.

Interesting story...I have enjoyed learning something new from you each time.

Michele,

Don't worry, I am not into animal cruelty. The whole point in the story has to do with the ending -- where 5 monkeys preventing anyone from getting the banana without a real clue as to why. None of these monkeys have been sprayed with water. Thats status quo in action.

Good point! This is exactly why I always question the status quo!

Michele,

Wow isnt the Internet amazing. I have never saw this story in print until now. So the story I heard did not stray too much from the original print. And that the story has a name -- Monkey Paradox.

Interesting!!!

Status quo of what? In general? Can you elaborate on that?

Jay said...

The message was general. I was not being specific, but it applies to so many things in our lives. Look around yourselves and you will see many policies, rules, laws, etc., that were set for you long time ago. Are they still valid. Evaluate them before accepting them.

In my perspective, there are many people who work with deaf people have that attitude. They often go to work and do things unproductive because they still believe that deaf people cant do this and that. So they just do routine things and bring paychecks home without challenging themselves to do more. We need to get become more alert on who is abusing status quo in our community.

OIC. I thought this was about the v/blog credibility issue again. Challenging the status quo by yourself is a risk, get fired from work or whatever. Group effort is best. Point's taken anyway.

Keep on with your wild projects. That's what I do, take the challenge and hope the outcome will be effective. You have video hand cam, so you can produce a fun creative project biking or something later when it warms up. Keep on vlogging.

Good one! I learned about this "Monkey Paradox" when I took Information Assurance & Critical Infrastructure Protection class. When we studied policy, this is a good example to understand why a policy was developed in first place. By the way, I remember you when we were Gallaudet students. I never forgot your amazing solo performance playing a different musician role. I enjoy watching your vlogging and learning. Thank you. Bob Rourke

Hi BobRRR

I am not sure I remember you by just seeing your nickname ;-)

Hello back regardless!
