ASL can be recorded!
In this VLog Jay Krieger talks about languages' need for permanent records. ASL has been struggling to come up with record keeping -- using paper. But ASL needs to break free and use different record keeping system. Jay closes with an idea on having some sort of central library or repository to preserve all our ASL records.

I was thinking more in line of a Deaf version of YouTube, Video.Google, Blip.TV, etc. Bloggers can upload all their vlogs at this one place.

Well said! I'm doing my pre-dissertation abstract now on language documentation (an equivalence of library science that focuses on preserving ASL based on phonological argumentation). Once this theory that I am developing now is complete, we will have a better justification for preserving vlogs based on subject matters in the same manner you go to the library and locate specific books. Right now we are doing anything without linguistic principles.

Technology is constantly evoluting therefore our ASL themed vlogs shall be recorded and archived within a centralized location. Perhaps Library of Congress would be first location to have such an archive since LOC stores thousands if not millions of text records. Gally could provide one if they want to preserve such vlogs as well. I believe that within 2-5 years from now, we'll realize that objective that you proposed, Jay.
Good question! I wonder if we could work with YouTube to see if they could help us archive the vlogs - like a partnership with YouTube? Maybe we could write letter to YouTube and explain our situation and see what they have to offer. It may be an interesting and unique idea and they may take up on it as I'm sure no one has approached to them about this yet.
