Survival of the Fittest

Jay Krieger rambles on that Deaf are humans first, behaves the same way humans do, to survive over time. He emphasizes that all humans globally have their right to exist.

Good vlog...

We all are humans, born from the fertilized eggs. Many people have tried to conquer the world, but failed miserably. Like your other vlog on hugging, hello to all of you readers because you are human beings like me :-)

Great post!

:D

That must have been a killer coffee!

Thanks for calming the ocean and that it's not "owned" but anyone, namely all Deafies (or any term they wish to insert here) are always welcome to surf!

There's no such "spots" on the ocean, either... ain't that grand? :)

Here's a snippet of the song from Pearl Jam's "Love Boat Captain":

Love boat captain
Take the reigns,.. steer us towards the clear.
I know it's already been sung,... can't be said enough.
Love is all you need,.. all you need is love,..
Love,.. love,...
Love

You're our love boat captain of DR!

Hello, to you, too, deaf niches!

:)

*waves* :D

I'm just going to post the entire song in your honor as our Love Boat Captain! :D

Love Boat Captain

Is this just another day this god forgotten place
First comes love, and then comes pain, let the games begin
Questions rise and answers fall, insurmountable

Love boat captain
Take the reigns and steer us towards the clear
Here
It's already been sung but it can't be said enough, all you need is love

Is this just another phase? Earthquakes making waves
Trying to shake the cancer off? Stupid human beings
Once you hold the hand of love, it's all surmountable

Hold me and make it the truth..
That when all is lost there will be you
'Cause to the universe I dont mean a thing
And there is just one word I still believe
And it's love

It's an art to live with pain, mix the light into grey
Lost 9 friends we'll never know, 2 years ago today
And if our lives became too long would it add to our regret?

And the young they can lose hope 'cause they can't see beyond today
The wisdom that the old can't give away
Hey
Constant recoil
Sometimes life
Don't leave you alone

Hold me and make it the truth
That when all is lost there will be you
'Cause to the universe I don't mean a thing
And there is just one word I still believe
And it is love, love, love, love, love

Love boat captain
Take the reigns, steer us towards the clear
I know it's already been sung
Can't be said enough
Love is all you need, all you need is love, love, love

Jay, Good vlog! Yeah, there are many different views, opinions and perspectives. Most important is we work together as a team from disagree to agree. I know some people stand in what they believe and refuse to change. With religion or Christianity is other story. I will not go there.

Enjoy your coffee. I have hot tea (PG Tip) with honey and half-half. Yummy. I drink coffee sometime during day. It is depend on my mood. Have a good day at work!

iammine, nice song! Why don't you make it on vlog? It would be neat to see you to give us an song on "Love Boat Captain." Your comment reminded me of old TV show "Love Boat." That was in 1970s. My family always watched it often from begin to end season. =]

Interesting topic, Jay.

What about the culturally primitive?

In my opinion, I do not think there is any difference about the deaf issue. At this point, their own cultures, they do not use their networks. For instance, in Brazil, there were a group called, "Indians" in the Rain Forest. They do not use their networks but they have kept their own cultures. Sadly, they have isolated their own ways.

Another topic, I have always thought that the latin language was dead, but I was wrong. There is a latin language in Italy. It is still survive in their own language. It is surely amazing that the latin language was formed in the very early age. The pope is still using their latin language.

Happy Vlogging, Jay.

More of a reason to have something like Deaf Read to bring us together.

Jay! Jay! Jay! Jay! Sing a song in "Love Boat Captain"! Jay the Captain! Ha ha! If you are happy to sing us a song, then we all need waters. Why? We support you instead of throw you vegetables. ;-)

One other thing I wanted to add is that yes, we are all humans. There are so many different experiences all over the world.

Here we are focusing on the general deaf experience. One thing that we all have in common is Deaf. Even CODAs have that in common with us. They have a connection to the Deaf community through their parents. Many of what we discuss here can also apply to other groups of people with a specific common experience. Even some people have things in common with more than just one group. So many of that overlaps.

One good instance is the Hawaiians. I am part Hawaiian and I still have family out there. I get newspaper from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. One of their biggest issues right is becoming their own nation. I cannot say whether that will happen or not. They fight to preserve their culture and language. They have Hawaiian language schools for children where they also teach hula and other cultural stuff. They even discuss the blood quantum such as 1/4 Hawaiian or 1/2 Hawaiian or full. Some feel like they are not accepted because they are not "Hawaiian" enough even though they grew up on the islands and that it is their home. My point is that they have the same cultural issues parallel to the deaf culture. Yet they are still a part of humanity.

Our group awareness and theirs is only two parts of the global awareness.

So just because we are talking about what we have in common, Deaf, does not mean we are the only ones with issues that affect us as a community. Other communities have theirs too and that is not really our focus here. Our focus mainly is the deaf community.

I value my heritage very much. We in my family are not all pure Hawaiians but Hawaii is a big part of my family's history and in their hearts. It makes them who they are so I am of course interested in what is happening in the Hawaiian community.

I believe that we need to understand ourselves as individuals and our culture and what it means to me to be able to assimilate into the larger picture. Not just see others but see ourselves as well. On a larger scale, what we all humans have in common is humanity.

Such a nice and heartfelt message, Jay!
Your peace-keeping ideas are good and much appreciated by those who advocate for peace. It'd be great for us, in the Deaf community, to strive for harmony and peace within ourselves.
Hey, how about if you meet with Prez "W" Bush and teach him something about achieving peace?!? :-)

Hmmm, how about nominating Jay for the Noble Award for Peace? ;)

hahaha
should i laugh or cry here?

i think you are one kind person.
out of touch with reality maybe??

love is important..i agree
but it doesnt solve world's problems

competency tests are given for a reason
records are kept for a reason
degrees are conferred for a reason

yeah you can be the love boat captain
keep your eyes ahead
and let us know where we are going

Aloha Jay,

I was seeing on your VLOG that is very great and revealed that we are humanity and survive through the time of war and peace in many centuries on our precious Earth. Now the civilizations in Earth has changed big time from Ancient to Present days like a globalization spread around the world.

We, the Deaf people are strongly survive to preserve our sign language, culture, and history and keep it way to the future of new generation. The Education is very important because it is democracy and give new torch to the new generation of Deaf children and their community.

I always drink the coffee in the morning before starting work in Hawaii. Kona is the best! haha!

Keep it way!

Mahalo,

Jay, Thanks for this great vlog! You said it beautifully from the beginning to the end and everyone should read this and follow it.

We can always argue, but we must have RESPECT for the others.

I hate to see some angry vlogs or some vlogs/blogs to belittle the other deaf people's opinions and perspectives.

Amen to your well-said vlog this morning with a very good coffee.

From your state neighbor

*yawn* I could use a bottle of Starbuck Mocha Frappunicco!

Humanity, eh?

Humanity with us had gone a long way! Its ebbs and flows with ripples have influenced our survival abilities and of course the history of deafness speak for itself.

Hmm, *yawn* I'm not particularly morning person so I gonna need some caffeine fix! Long live humanity!

Jay,

I watch your BLOG on a daily basis like a newspaper for the deaf. In the past you told us that there may be no longer deaf people in the future. Now you said we, deaf people , are the survivors. Two different topics!!!???!!!!

Let me state my views. Of course we are people first. We are deaf people second.

In the eyes of hearing world we are deaf people first. Let me share my experience with you. Of course we are invisible disabled people until we start communicating with sign language or through the interpreters. They look at us like we are deaf people first. I was introduced as a deaf teacher instead of naming me. I shouted that DO I HAVE A NAME? Call my name period. No need to call me a deaf person.

It is a fact that we, deaf people, do receive the second hand information. We relay on interpreters and relay services. Nowadys we are receiving the first hand information because we use emails to prove that no one knows whether or not we are deaf.

In the hearing world they call us deaf first.
