Are Deaf Referees Hearing?

ha ha.
I recall referee signals being strictly enforced during deaf basketball tournaments at other times. I wonder if USADB could make a note of allowance to dispense with those confusing universal signs. By the way, I learned a few referee signs from you. Some I haven't seen before...
Do hearing referees need to explain their signs to whoever is recording on paper?
Like you said Universal Sign Language, maybe that is Referee Sign Language, ha.
Jay,,
Sorry! You just said that you are wondering. Wish you did not leave us a question to wonder since you were at the NBAD. You should stop the wonder by simply asking the questions smile!
Learn a lesson by asking immediate to prevent the wonders next time...
LOL..It is hilarious how you describe what the deaf referees are saying! Perhaps that they are required to follow the regulations regardless the participants are deaf? I just enjoy the way you describe them cracking me up so thanks for that!
Definitely, they have to adhere to what they were trained to do. It's part of their job. I know it's silly..let's bend the rules a bit eh? but, I guess they could loose their credentials if they did.
Grinning... good job mimicking the referees' signs. Maybe they did that way to make sure that any hearing observers were following the games? Just a thought.
I'm not a fan of sports but that gave me a good morning chuckle this morning!
What really made me laugh was you and Joey...I can see this:
Jay: "So, you going to vlog about this?"
Joey: "Ah, you know me...I gotta be professional! Look what happened when I talked about my airport experience!"
Jay: "Oh come on - it'll be funny!"
Joey: "Let's flip a coin."
We know who won, eh? ;)
Back to Stats class - will catch up with more blogs when I have time... :(

Hello I think USADB may be under HEARING Policy? DEAF REFREE MAY FOLLOW USA BASKETBALL UNIVERSAL SIGN LANGUAGE> Let DEAF use ASL in Hearing policy?
Hey, I wish I was there to play and socialize but I had to do my priority plans over the weekend. Sorry to hear that your team were out of the championship game.
Referees have to do their job no matter what. I know it's silly but it's a job.
I agree with Jay but on a second thought, an official from NBA or any big time college like Big Ten or ACC may show up as a fan to observe Deaf referees. If they are doing a great job, they may be offered for a job in higher level. If Deaf referees do not follow what they are trained to do then there is no chance that they could "move up" to higher level as an official. Take care!
